Lorinser Tune Second-Generation smart fortwo
Lorinser are proudly touting their re-working of the second-generation smart fortwo as a car now capable of flaunting somewhat more than its city car credentials, instead now able to boast its rather more timely traffic light starts. The Lorinser fortwo combines further-tuned versions of smart's three-cylinder turbo engines, new dynamic styling modifcations and a lightweight body for optimum city car performance.
Lorinser's engine tuning program is available for all variants in the smart fortwo's range. Heading up the line-up is an uprated 104 PS version of smart's turbocharged 3-cylinder 84 PS engine, propelling the rear-wheel-drive fortwo to 100 kph in under ten seconds and onto a top speed of 180 kph. For those owners starting off with a lower-powered fortwo, Lorinser are only too happy to oblige. The entry-level 61 PS petrol fortwo is tuned to produce 71 PS and achieve a respectable 156 kph, while those with the 71-horsepower strong fortwo will be upgraded to 77 PS, enabling a 160 kph top speed. Performance is aided by a gross weight of some 800 kilos, while the semi-automatic transmission receives an update in its second-generation.
The sporty little runabout does however receive more than a little under-the-skin treatment. The bodykit features wide front skirts, a gaping air intake and sports grille at the front while cosmetic surgery at the newly-dynamic rear includes the addition of four chrome pipes and a protruding rear bumper. Enlarged wheel arches make room for wide-tyred 'eye-catching' 15-inch six-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside, the fortwo has undergone minor revisions although splashes of chrome effect and brush finished aluminum now adorn the clock, tachometer and speedometer, the latter having been updated by the tuner to reflect the new cars' non-restricted top speed. A special design housing hi-fi and navigation system finishes off the effect. See Lorinser.com for the tuner's full product line-up.
