Toyota is the world’s biggest company in terms of production in 2007, according to the figures released by the company and rival GM. The Japanese company has declared 9.51 million produced vehicles in 2007, whereas General Motors has 9.26 million. Those figures of Toyota include subsidiaries Daihatsu and Hino Motors as part of the company. Toyota released its data on Christmas, but GM on Dec. 3. So it’s not over yet, as GM’s figures are estimated.

In order not to wait in the same way next year, Toyota plans to build a record number of vehicles in 2008 to extend the lead over GM as the world's biggest car maker by production. Output will rise 5 percent to 9.95 million vehicles in 2008, while sales are planned to rise also with 5 percent to 9.85 million.

Toyota is Japan's most profitable company. It opened a factory in St. Petersburg, Russia last week, and will add production in North America and China in 2008. Rising gasoline prices are spurring demand for the Toyota City-based car maker's fuel-efficient Camry sedans and Prius gasoline-electric hybrid cars.

For all the production in the world Toyota stills seems unable to create an amazing Toyota Corolla... even 10 generations later. If it were up to Toyota we would see a world full of ugly Echos, overbuilt Landcruisers, and obsolete Hybrids. My first car was a Toyota and I have an older Lexus, but man... they have been building some ugly crap lately... have you seen the new Matrix?

actually... the european spec corolla (specifically the one i recently saw in Sri Lanka), is prob the best corolla ive ever seen... its a shrunken down version with little tweeks to the lights camry lol... it looks way more expensive than it really is

Consumers win...enthusiasts lose. Congratulations for putting so many boring cars on the road. As for the strangest-looking and sheer ugliness, the honor goes to Nissan.

Consumers always win, that's why they are called consumers and the rest are enthusiasts because they are a minority.

Evil wins again.

Number 1 in production but number 100 in quality.

Well I wouldn't say number 100, but definitely down there....

I strongly disagree ShawNex. While they're not the prettiest of cars, I think they're right up there in term of qualities. They run well and they last pretty much forever.
