9FF GT9 Hits 409KM/H

We have known for a long time that the 9ff engineers intended for their GT9 to take the world record for the fastest production car in the world, now the German tuners are claiming they have achieved the feat with a run of 409 km/h at a track in Papenburg on 10th April.

But after searching through our record books and more specifically the current world record speed set by the SSC Ultimate Aero that stands at 255.83mph which translates to 411.71km/h meaning this claim can be thrown out the window. As a consolation 9ff can be happy in the knowledge that they did at least beat the Bugatti Veyron which previously held the record at 407km/h, however one question comes to mind – why did it take so long for 9ff to make an announcement?

The GT9 is loosely based on the Porsche 911 GT3 but that is about as far as the similarities go as it is shares just 2% of its components. The GT9 is both lower and longer and you will find the engine in the middle of the car rather than at the rear for better weight distribution.

Power comes courtesy of a quite insane 987bhp 4 litre flat six twin turbo engine mated to a six-speed transmission. Despite the heavy power behind this machine, the statistics aren't quite as impressive with 0-60mph standing at 4.2 seconds – 1.7 seconds slower than the veyron.

what's up with those rear rims, they are 2D?

by afterace2 | May 9, 2008 3:27 PM
they r like hub caps, they r used for aerodynamic purposes..

by wolff | May 9, 2008 4:27 PM
I guess they are flat wheels for aerodynamic purposes with a picture of an alloy on it.... I feel sorry for 9ff, what are car, but sadly it will be forgotten unless they manage to beat the SSC

by joelynn | May 9, 2008 4:24 PM
Just like Ferrari F1 racers. They are covered so divert air flow somewhere else...

As for the Bugatti: We see (again) how much of a giant Veyron is. It does 407 and on top of that can accerelate to 60 quicker than 9ff. Don't forget the fact that it's DSG transmission as well. So, you could cruise along the boulevards with it as well !!

by catch22 | May 9, 2008 4:29 PM
I think the 0-60 time for the 9ff might be of no interest to anyone for its main purpose is to be mightily fast.

9ff has a range of 911s that are sub-4-second 0-60 cars.

by ceven | May 9, 2008 4:32 PM
well, now almost all F1 cars use them.. they even use it for the front wheels, it basically smoothens the airflow, without creating turbulence..

by wolff | May 9, 2008 4:32 PM
The rim plates in the Rear have also been used by Le Mans cars in the 80s and early 90s as others said for aerodynamic purposes at very high speeds. I like this car alot, its a very good accomplishment moving this fast, given its engine has a maximum displacement of 4.0L, it could be smaller but the max you can bore the boxer 6 porsche is about 4.0. So the engine work and high-boost needed for this car to hit this speed is very respectable. Very good car, even if its built pretty much for one purpose. and like someone else said, 9FF offers other packages for other objectives :)

i like this car, but i cant help but notice how much it looks like a kit car or a bad 911 replica.

GTR will overtake this

by kevoluetion | May 10, 2008 2:50 AM
I agree what kevolution says. GTR is faster! Hail Japanese engineering! Porsches....move aside, you are no longer the benchmark. Better start catching up with your rivals now.

by The_woo_factor | May 12, 2008 2:06 PM
impresive what they have done whit less a half than the bugati engine, think that but it looks pretu mush to the RUF CTR3 too XD I think if this car just make 980 hp its for those regulation stuff remember an ald F1 car at 87 got 1200hp whit 1.5 Lt V6 twin turbo engine jeje

by _M7_ | May 10, 2008 6:00 AM
*sarcasticly* 'yeh they kinda forgot to put the rear panel on i hate this car. its looks the same as every other porsche only without a rear panel

I HATE PORSCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are over-rated

by milonakis | May 10, 2008 11:40 AM
obviously u have never driven any, so STFU

by catchmyshadow | May 10, 2008 2:12 PM
Porsches are overrated ? Yea, you're just plain wrong. I could tell you why but its not worth the effort.

by Xanavi23 | May 10, 2008 4:14 PM
i havent driven any becasue i'm only 14, bt if i was old enough to drive i wouldn't drive a porsche. i can drive, i'm just not old enopugh to drive legally. if you want a good car for under £100,000 try an Audi R8. far better than any porsches ever made

by milonakis | May 10, 2008 8:39 PM
R8:4 wheel drive, mid engine, (only)2 seats, styling: in your face, handling(fun factor): good but a as all 4 wheel drives a bit boring C2S: rear wheel drive, rear engine, 2+2 seats, styling; a class and tradition handling (fun factor): fantastic 2 different concepts, 2 very good cars. also: 1 company soon. (more or less, cause porsche owns big parts of VW-Audi) but before u start to say things like u hate porsche, wait until u have driven one or tell ur dad to rent one for a weekend. ...there is no substitute, the 911 is a legend, it is a drug.

by catchmyshadow | May 10, 2008 9:38 PM
Amen, Catch my Shawdow, the thing about the 911, is that its a Legend but also a car that has been in a PURE constant form of evolution for 30 years or more. Other cars may be as fast or hell, even get faster times on a track, but there is only ONE 911, no replacements.

by xanavi23 | May 11, 2008 8:37 AM
pity the looks havn't evolved

by milonakis | May 11, 2008 10:54 AM
is it? It's a great shape, it doesn't need changing. Often facelifts ruin a perfectly good car- look at the 1st generation Hyundai Coupe

by joelynn | May 11, 2008 1:15 PM
it HAS evolved in all aspects during the years. but in general the 911 is more about evolution not revolution, it´s about tradition, being authentic and reliable. it has that totally unique and as xanavi said: pure caracter, which is very rare on the streets nowadays. why change a "winning team" that is at the top of the food chain for the last 40 years?! Porsche really did and does the right things.

by catchmyshadow | May 11, 2008 1:28 PM
GTR is faster. Face it, porsches cannot overtake the GTR no matter how hard they try. Their fastest and most exotic is still no match for the mighty GTR!

by The_woo_factor | May 12, 2008 2:05 PM
It'll never be a said day for Porsches. Porsches are still amazing, Porsche still hasnt released the 997Turbo S. The Turbo is still incredibly fast and is....STILL a Porsche. Porsche still has 24 24 Hours of Le Mans victories alone. The GT-R is great, ild buy one in a second...but sadly...its STILL not a Porsche. You either get it, or you dont, there will never be anything like a Porsche...i've never even driven one and i know this. Porsche is Porsche Of Course ;)

by Xanavi23 | May 12, 2008 4:02 PM
Porsches are no longer the benchmark. What a sad day for porsches. GTR has the crown now!

by The_woo_factor | May 12, 2008 2:08 PM
porsches are crap and they all look the same. GTR is far better, looks and performance

by milonakis | May 12, 2008 7:15 PM
Porsches AREN'T crap...you dont know what you're talking about. Porsches look all the same because Porsche is a tradition. The 911 will NEVER change in looks, its been 30+ years and it still has all the same features that make it great. As for looks, thats subjective, theres a fair amount of people who think the GT-R is ugly(not me). The GT-R might be faster but its not WAY faster, in fact the 997T has better top end acceleration, 100mp-170mph.The performance is very close, the GT-R is faster but not by much. If you like the GT-R more, thats fine everybody likes different cars, but calling Porsche crap, is PURE ignorance plain and simple.

by Xanavi23 | May 12, 2008 9:23 PM
we live an age of fast technological progress. technology for sportscars is not longer in the hands of a few carmakers. i mean even a VW GOLF(R32)can run 160mph nowadays. any company can create supercars if they want. also, if u want to own the fastest car on the RING u would have to switch to a new model every 6 months or something in the future. GT-2 is the benchmark then maybe a GT-R then probably ZR-1 then TURBO-S etc etc. no carmaker will own the no1 spot on the RING etc. for a long period anymore, technology is simply changing too fast. so at the end of the day, other things count. Unique look and caracter, spirit, grace and class and that is what cars like a GT-R or ZR-1 lack. they may be fast but that´s about it and no one will ever talk about them again if they get beaten on the ring soon. cause that´s all a GT-R etc. has to offer. from edmunds.com: "Then there's the hooligan factor. Sometimes having a fast car isn't only about speed. Sometimes it's about fun. And the GT-R, with its very sophisticated all-wheel-drive system, gets a big fat zero in this category."

by catchmyshadow | May 13, 2008 1:55 AM
I agree with everything you said, but i wouldnt say the GT-R or ZR1 have no class, the GT-R has class although it simply isnt nor can be compared to the 911Turbo for many reasons we've already posted. As for the ZR1, it does deserve some credit, like the 911 it is one of the very few cars that have been in production for over30 years, 50 for the Corvette. Also like the 911 it has more or less been the same kind of Evolution-thru-classic formula, with the exception of the Supercharger at least. So it does have the same pedigree as the Porsche although the 911 has more class simply because it is a german marque with some luxury involved, interior and all. But also like you said, i love the GT-R ild buy it in a second, but from everything i read...the computers do make it fairly dumbed down compared to even the 911T with its own AWD system, less "fun factor involved".

by Xanavi23 | May 13, 2008 3:31 AM
Okay no. 1, I love the GT-R but it's victory will be shortlived, I guarantee that... Nissan had their sights set on kicking the Turbo, which they did, but what's to stop Porsche from taking the title back? I see it this way, if the GT-R has set the 2nd or 3rd fastest time on the ring (whatever), for a production vehicle, all these manufacturers are very capable of better because of what their racecars are capable of... they are all holding back for their production vehicles... so at the end of the day all these arguments are futile... if you like the Porsche then by golly, go get the Porsche, if you prefer the Nissan, then get it... simple...

by Decypha | May 14, 2008 7:54 PM
oh and milionakis... I was just like you at your age... I also didn't see what's so special about Porsche's... it's the fact that they can take on bigger cars with an engine half the size(basically) and still retain a level of comfort when you're inside the car, unlike Ferrari's or the like, Porsche's have some nice leather upholstery and other creature comforts... the Porsche is the smart man's supercar, you don't have to be winding it on the track to enjoy it...

by Decypha | May 14, 2008 7:58 PM
Amazing acceleration bove 140 km/h ... Just Wahooooo
