First released back in February in Brazil, the details of the monstrous VW 9.150 ECE (Especial Chassis Eletronico) armoured vehicle has evaded us until now. Powered by an MWM International 4.12 TCE Euro III which produces 132kW (180hp) and 600Nm torque at 1600 rpm, the 9.159 ECE rides with a reinforced rear suspension, pneumatic brakes and a whole lot of steel armour plating. With a wheelbase of 2,850 mm, the curb weight of 8,500 kg (18,740 lbs.) is distributed with 3,200 kg (7055 lbs.) over the front axel and 5,300 kg (11,685 lbs.) over the rear. Surely capable of withstanding a whole lot of abuse, but how is the fuel economy?

lol It doesn't look terribly "leam" to me. Brazilian, though, eh? I wonder if it runs on ethanol...

they made any crash-test? wonder if it could make five stars on euro ncap.

I think they tried too hard on the design...

close to perfect...they should have at least given it 250hp so it wont be too slow. bt otherwise it does really look a mean fighting machine!

So a recommended car for Soccer Moms and Americans.

Guaranteed to be the biggest thing you can drive and with enough room to grow into.

At first, I thought I was looking at one of those vehicles used in a bad 80's science fiction movie. Two thumps up VW!

i am especially surprised Volkswagen even showed photos of the vehicle's interior . now a would-be attacker would have a field day analyzing this armoured truck's vulnerabilities from within ... for free . great thinking VW...quintessential Zerocco mentality .

Looks a bit like an R8, though.

Only from the rear 3/4.

I love that interior! It looks like you're sitting inside of Optimus Prime's head!

by Bremen_Koenigsegg | July 12, 2008 5:14 AM
I do think Batman would look good in this. Put some 24' wheels on it, re-spray it black with yellow racing stripes, add some lasers.

by qmj | July 12, 2008 7:48 AM
they should put a V8 in it

It's only a matter of time until someone in the middle east gets one made up with the Veyron's W16 shoved in there.

The grill makes it look cartoonish. Take that away and that is one scary ride.

I wager this car can out-corner a Scuderia or even a 911. Good on you VW!
