Audi Releases A5 Cabrio, Sportback, A7 and Next Gen A8 Sketches
As a teaser of future launches, Audi has released several sketches of upcoming models, including the A5 Cabrio and fastback, the A7 Coupe, and the next-generation Audi A8.
The most likely to be launched first is the A5 Cabrio, which will feature a soft-top and be almost identical in design to the Coupe version. The sketches also reveal the new A5 sportback, with a low roofline which makes the car more like a sedan than a sportback hatch that is the emblem of classic Audi design. Audi will also be offering 'S'-trim, performance versions of each A5 range model, although Audi has not said if it will offer any RS models in the A5 product line.
Audi is also moving more in the direction of the coupe designs of its fellow German rivals, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, with the new A7, which will be a 4-door coupe expected for release in 2010. The A7 line will feature a 204 hp 2.8 liter engine, a supercharged 300 hp 3.0 liter, and a 394 hp 4.2 liter V8. An RS model is also expected, which Audi has announced will come with a remarkable 600hp twin-turbocharged 5.2 liter V10 powerplant.
The newly released sketches also reveal the next Audi A8, due late in 2010. The A8 will come with two diesel and two gasoline engines, either a 3.0 liter and 4.2 liter for both fuel variants. An S8 version will feature a 5.0 liter V10 FSI with 620 hp.

u can say that about Astons as well. vantage,db7 and rapide they all look very similar. BUT, who cares?? as long as they look good and stylish and sell. better than some rubbish design experiments, never change a winning team i`d say...
Some degree of family resemblance is important, but two things are wrong at Audi... First, there is little differentiation beyond size between one model line and the next. At least BMW has pushed away from the "same sausage, different lengths" of the past, and MBs have enough distinction within each class to set them apart. Second, the A8 is always at the wrong end of Audi's styling cycle, trailing all the others when it should lead the way as the flagship. To me it always just looks like a giant A4, which hinders its presence as a prestige car. It should leap ahead and lead the way next time.
These so-called four-door coupes as a separate series just remind me of when cars came as pillared sedans and pillarless 4-door hardtops. Just that no one tried to call it a different model line then, just a bodystyle variant.
Audi seems to be adopting BMW's Hoffmeister kink in the upturned rear quarter glass. Seems like a mistake... their six-window design has been an Audi hallmark since the 80s.
I just did a BYO at the US Audi website and a nicely equipped A4 Avant topped US$53,000 (about 43,000 euros). That's AMG (or S4, or A6) money for a 4-cylinder car with only 211hp. It's a nice car but not *that* nice.
i do like the look of the new a8 though, better than the new 7 wait to see it in the metal to see if its better looking than the s class
I really don't understand where you see Audi copying BMW either. Audi don't have those oversized kidney grills that honestly make the front of the new 7 series look like an ugly boar. And then of course, there's that ugly rear end of the new 7 series, which I have no idea from where it was inspired. You must be either one of two things; blind, or extremely ignorant. Where do you see a BMW in an Audi? The logo perhaps? Because the BMW logo is one circle and the Audi's happens to have four? Or it may be the fact that both cars have red taillamps. Or it may be that BMWs and Audi have four wheels? I honestly don't understand your point. Audi and BMW don't share same character lines, similar interiors nor same faces. You, with your emotionally delusional rants, may of course see things differently. I suggest you grow up; you talk like a spoiled 10 year old who wants everything its way. Well let me tell you something; the world doesn't revolve around what you think. You have said at least 20 times that Audi copies BMW, but unfortunately, you cannot back those statements with any evidence. I would respect your opinion on Audi and BMWs if only you actually expressed your thoughts in a coherent and intellectual way, but you have made it very clear that you are not capable of doing so.
Pray he does not get to see Predator or Pirates of the Carribean.
i am not a fan of bmw (never owned one), but i still feel that the new 7 series are actually very appealing... i have always been a MB fan... but there is no need to do comparison between MB and audi... everyone knows audi is just for people who want cheap german cars although they are not so cheap actually... one must be crazy if thinking audi is comparable with others mb, bmw, porsche...
at least i can distinguish different bmw models (even M or non-M) just by a glance... but i can only distingusih audis by looking at the back badge...
and i am not attacking audi as i don't care how they perform, it's not like i am a bmw or mb shareholder.. i am just sharing my feelings when seeing audi... why do you consider any bad comments about audi as attacks? can't they be honest comments? i am also impressed by their drawings but the real things always look much more boring than drawings... the drawings all look very sleek modern cool design but i can imagine the real thing will just look like a A4, with or without the roof, with or without 2 more doors.. that's it..
i agree with u that it's good thing that audi models don't look dated that easily... and it's also good thing for A4 user as people might confuse it as rs4, A/S6 or A/S8 or even A/S5 when they only paid for an basic model of A4..
i don't think it's ever possible for a person to confuse a MB C class with a S or a BMW 3-series with a 7-series... unless that person is blind or intentionally attack BMW or MB according to your logic..
Gents, BMW's rivals laughed at the flame design the time it went public. Some car makers even made jokes of it. I also was not convinced then. My perception has however changed since then for the simple reason that the flame design is like a 'Levi Jean' that is able to keep it's youth and stlye through so many seasons unlike other makes. It grows on you with time evene though it's not easily likele. Take the Merc E class and A6 models that were launched at the same time as the current 5 series. All of them except the 5 look dated already. Get the new C Class and ask your self why car magazines said that there was a bit of 3 series i the new C Class as there is a bit of 3 series as well in the new A4 side profile design. Merc even went 'agro and sh1t' - they 'hijacked the whole 7 series dash board and boot lid in broad day light and fitted them on their current S class. The point is these car makers will always steal ideas from each other to their own benefit. VW were one of the first with the DSG gear box - BMW saw an opening their and ordered the same gear box but one that works better than the VW one based on what they have learnt from the reviews of the same gear box. Anti roll hill start in manual cars was started on the 3 (i may be wrong) and it didn't take lond before Merc applied the same. Stop go was started in the 1 series and guess who has alos applied the same principle. Audi started Quattro and BMW have come up with X Drive. Sometimes these car makers steal ideas from the small guys who go unnoticed in the car industry i.e. take the Opel Astra of 1999 to 2001. The bumpers, side profile and the Fish Grill front even though not as pronounced as Audis were used by them then. No one talks about them. They all copy from each other but onmost occassions one car brand gets ripped off more than others.
