Best spy shots of new 2009 Roewe SUV based on SsangYong Kyron

We have attained the best spy pictures of the new Roewe-made SUV from China, which could be badged an MG for the European market when it arrives in 2009.

The SUV will be based on the Ssangyong Kyron but differs noticeably from the Korean flagship. Front end is different for instance, rear has also been changed for a visually-attractive rear end. Well, relatively anyway. The roof spoiler hangs tough so that must have been a favourite with the new designers.

Engines would be carried over from Mercedes-Benz/SsangYong alliance too with both the 2.0-litre and 2.7-litre diesels making the range. Tough economic times have probably affected research and development budgets for most companies, where they existed in the first place, therefore don't be alarmed by this blatant lack of engine power. Roewe will do well to invest in modern power though, Euro emissions rules are quite strict on automakers who darken the skies.

It will finally finish the MG badge as enthusiasts cars if they stick one on this. I'm sure it's a capable budget SUV but that it is NOT an MG.

a korean ssangyong to be built for a chinese company that will sell it under a british brand. interesting.

not that interesting is the lack of originality of the headlights design... new kia sportage/ saturn vue anyone?

Yeah, they stole the headlighs from saturn/opel, but i didn't know MG existed anymore...

This will make sure no one knows they exist.

that copies every wagon in existance! headlights - Opel Antara (Vue), Lexus RX and Kia Sportage grille - looks to be from Chrysler Voyager. rear/profile - Renault Koleos/Samsung QM5/Ssangyong Kyron they're copying everyone! i always admired Ssangyong for thier really daring designs and now they're copying everyone else. Thats taking a page out of the Chinese book!

I agree with Jake02...Ssang Yyong trucks (I say trucks because their sedan the Chairman is a different story) always had quirks and less than agreeable designs...but it was always original...(important point being less than agreeable though)

But this thing looks too mainstream to be a Ssang Yong truck. I thought it was a Chrysler.

But isn't SSang Yong owned by the Chinese now? I guess they are having greater inputs in design... "Start copying people...or you're fired!"
