A great car now gets even greater

Nissan is making a few changes to the GT-R for Model Year 2009. Soon it will be two years since the GT-R went to market in Japan and these changes/ additions will benefit that market first. MY 09 is being dubbed Series II.

It gets a power upgrade of 5ps to 485ps/ 357kW, the white point paint is now Storm White, Brembo brake calipers are now rebadged as Nissan instead of Brembo, and the front license plate base has been removed and the fuel tank increased from 71 litres to 73.8 litres. Fuel economy thus goes from 8.2 km/L to 8.5km/L. However, all this comes at yet another price increase, this time up 5 percent.

Nice work nissan, altough I already like the GT-R the way it is. Good luck now porsche, your gonna need it, if you get any, haha. ;)

Yes I love the GT-R too; however, putting performance aside, most of those who wish to standout would still get a Porsche over a Nissan. But at the same time, I fully support car manufacturers, be they German or British or Japanese or American, to develop cars challenging the legends up there. These are scenes that a car fan like me love to see ;)

are you HIGH? The GTR is more rare than the porsche. At a any car show the GTR will stand out over any 911. The GTR is more rare. If you want to stand out get a GTR. Unless you are at a car show with porsche enthusiasts

Still no match for the Porsche 911 Turbo. GT-R is still a FAT Lady, and slowww...

Another price increase? The last thing this car needs is to be priced closer to a 911. It just keeps inching higher and higher though...

Amweican-rules, you have no idea where have you been in the last year the gtr is proven faster than the 911! even if it has a fat ass

emm... Nissan badge brake caliper, I would rather have the set that are written "Brembo" instead

agreed.

Hmmm, let's see...

A 1% increase in published HP but a 3.7% increase in fuel consumption. That's, um, progress.

And yes, who wouldn't rather see Brembo on their brakes than Nissan? Are they no longer Brembos? Doubt it... Mizuno-san boasted of working closely with them to develop the GT-R's innovative braking hardware. Why stop celebrating the collaboration with the world's most renowned brake supplier?

So, since everyone already knew that car outputs well over its published HP (shhh!), what makes the "Series II" better, much less worthy of being called a new series? A new shade of white paint?

It's still a truly amazing car, but these changes seem more appropriate for a more troubled car, not something that damn near everyone has lauded as a true supercar, and a bargain among them. Almost seems like Nissan is so used to lackluster success that they have no other approach to model updates in their repertoire. Odd...

Er, isn't that a 3.7% DECREASE in fuel consumption? It now goes 8.5Km per litre, up from 8.2Km.

It's a crazy way to express it though. And I also don't see the association that is insinuated with fuel consumption having something to do with the size of the fuel tank.

Sorry, my bad. Used to seeing it in L/100km. So it's efficiency, not consumption here, and yes, it improved. Thanks for correcting me.

another 5% increase? that's about $4000 up in US....

by abugatti | November 14, 2008 6:30 AM
5% for that!? =)) I thought Nissan said the car is perfect, why update it!? Seriously, I'm expecting a mid-year refresh with new lightbulbs and three more stiches in the leather to sell for 10% more. They'll call it Series II.V to keep the roman numerals..

i have a 08 model and my freind has one two and they both have the same problem the stereo and toutch screen keep shuting down for no reason and 2 gear keeps grinding up i hope they fix those problems and optional rims would be nice.

I hope they make a "V-Spec". Which would be faster and even more better, like skyline R34 GT-R V-Spec

by mn07 | November 14, 2008 10:03 AM
There is a high chance that will be made, there are rumors of the V-Spec.

by Tuner_Mad | November 14, 2008 12:27 PM
V-spec is coming. Brochure has already been leaked. It's far beyond a rumor.

by machida | November 14, 2008 4:04 PM
The Guys from nissan have already got the V-spec around the nurburgring in 7.25m so its old news.

by mortz | November 14, 2008 8:55 PM
V spec launch was delayed because they want to make it even better. more than 100kg weight reduce + some more bhp than the 530 they announced
