Montoya said no to F1 comeback offers

Juan Pablo Montoya has confirmed he has received and turned down offers to return to formula one.

The 33-year-old Colombian left the category in the middle of a difficult season with McLaren in 2006, after a promising earlier career that netted him 7 wins.

Now settled in America's premier NASCAR series, Montoya insists he is "not interested in returning to F1".

"I am very happy in the US, and so is my family. Truthfully, it has never gone through my head to go back to formula one.

"What's more, even if McLaren or Ferrari wanted me, I would not go," he said in an interview with the Spanish news agency EFE.

It is suggested that Toro Rosso, and perhaps other teams, have been in contact with Montoya since he switched codes.

"I rejected these offers," he confirmed. "I'm not interested."

i'm sorry too here this, Monty You are a great driver, F1 is missing drivers like you. Not a lot of drivers stood up against Shumi like you did. Wishing you the best in Nascar.

I'm so glad he's staying put in the U.S. because F1 fans and drivers alike, don't need such an asshole driving a formula one car, not even an India Force. Juan Pablo Montoya is a loser, and will always be one. LOL =) He thinks, he is all that and a bag of chips, and he ain't shit! He will never do anything in Nascar.

You speak like a true Formula One fan. And all you speak is true.

I'm thinking that JPM has been sucking in way too many petrol fumes ... and hallucinating about being offered a return F1 drive ... he was always making excuses but never quite up to the task

it's a shame. i would love to see juan-pablo in the formula one again. he's got the courage that most drivers lack today.

JPM FTW!

I totally agree with amade, I would love to see Montoya back again. He had the guts to stand up against everyone, and I liked that he had attitudes unlike the present drivers in F1. And he is an excellent driver!

I miss JPM's cursing...

sebastianmejia17 - FYI The US don't like him either. A few of the NASCAR Drivers have made it public their distaste for Montoya's aggressive driving and there are fans who see it the same way. I just wish someone would put montoya in the concrete wall hard so that he can not drives again or so that he ends up like Dale Sr.

You wish death on another man ? Tell me, what's the massive different between Montoya and a guy like Stewart ? They're both aggressive and drive the same. alot of American drivers will make the difference only because Montoya is obviously of Latin descent. You should also STFU about Sr. had more skill in his pinky than you got in your whole body man.

Montoya is a champ and in terms of hotlaps he was one of the few who could hold pace with Schumacher. Drove so fast his BMW couldn't keep up with him, so it broke all the time. I like him alot, with that said he would have a hard time coming back, You guys seen Montoya ? Don't wanna be cold, but he's too fat for F1. In F1, you have to be light and fit. Won't work for him.

Montoya was killed by Kimi (a drunk) and Ralphie as well got more wins than him. This guy is simply an over rated under achiever who bolted from F1 with his ego between the legs. What has he done in Nascar? Zero!, What did he do in F1? set the quickest lap and get beaten to pulp by Michael Schumacer and get rained with punches by Vilevueve. Montoya is an averge driver and he'll never set Nascar on fire and that's a pity for the team owner. Monty - go join Ruebens Barrichelo ini retirement.

@ joshg_5

Your maybe a F1 fan, but you clearly don't understand much about this sport, your probably a frustrated Schumi-fan, and that's the beauty about Monty, he was just the opposite of Schumi...

by mc959 | November 26, 2008 11:35 AM
Ha ha ha ha mc959, joshg_5 is speaking the truth. Juanwho? won nothing in F1. Ok let me put it into perspective for you. Juan Pablo won less races than Shumie had managed to do (10 wins plus) in several seasons. Now does that help?

JPM should just stay at NASCAR...and you call NASCAR a motorsport? haha! He should stay with the most arrogant and obsolete racing series in the world.
