Golf Plus gets a minor facelift from VW

Dutch publication Auto Telegraaf has gotten its hands on a preview folder for the upcoming facelifted Golf Plus, which VW will be debuting this week at the Bologna Motor Show.

The Golf Plus doesn't get the major makeover that the Golf itself will be getting, but VW is moving the Plus more in the direction of having its own distinct identity. VW still counts sales of of the Plus together with the Golf as a single model, though. But that may be simply to keep the Golf the best selling vehicle in Europe, which it has been for most of the last 30 years.

The Plus gets a new set of bumpers, restyled at the back with a visible exhaust pipe. There's some new lighting, a chrome-lined grille and a fresh selection of interior fabrics and color palette. The Plus also gets Parking Assist as that technology trickles down into the lower end models.

A subtle package that suits the Plus - a bulkier, family variant of the Golf.

Looks better. How desperate are VW that they have to combine the sales figures of this just to give the Golf decent figures? Ford & Renault stopped doing this ages ago (with the C-Max & Scenic).

No they just run cars about untill 6000 miles or on lease and then they sell them for 1 owners and low milage , which makes ford / vw / vauxhall bump up the overall sales figures.

Toyota use the same tactic here in Australia by combining models under one name to try to bump Holden Commodore from the sought after top seller position ... here the Corolla and the Auris are both badged as Corolla ... Commodore still outsells them even though the Commodore Ute isn't included in the Holden sales figure.

If they bring it to US and price it right, which I doubt they can every do, it can compete with Scion boxes and the forthcoming Nissan Cube.

Combining sales numbers is not an issue. Toyota Corolla sales in US declined over the past few years, losing to Honda Civic and Mazda 3 primarily, so Toyota combines the numbers for the Corolla and the Matrix. They share most components and platform.
